What is a timesheet invoice?
A timesheet invoice bills hours worked and itemises or attaches the timesheet behind them, day by day and per worker, so the client can check the time against its own records before paying.
The tool prints it with the heading "Invoice" and behaves as an invoice.

When to use a timesheet invoice
- A staffing agency or contractor works at a client's site and the client approves the hours each week.
- A client's accounts team only pays hours that match an approved timesheet.
- You bill several people or roles at different rates on one invoice.
- Your contract caps hours per week or per task and the client wants to see them day by day.
What a timesheet invoice must include
- Invoice number and date
- Billing period, usually the week ending date
- Name of each worker or role
- Date and hours for each day or task
- Hourly rate per worker or role
- Overtime hours and the overtime rate, if any
- Total hours and total amount
- The client approver's name or the timesheet approval reference
- The client's purchase order number, if it uses one
Timesheet Invoice vs similar documents
-
vs hourly invoice
An hourly invoice may show only total hours per task; a timesheet invoice shows the daily log and usually the client's approval.
-
vs recurring invoice
A recurring invoice charges a fixed amount every period; a timesheet invoice changes with the hours actually worked.
-
vs statement of account
A statement lists invoices and payments, not hours; the timesheet invoice is the detailed bill behind one line of that statement.

Frequently asked questions
Do I attach the timesheet or put the hours on the invoice?
Either works, as long as the client can match them. Many agencies print daily hours on the invoice itself and keep the signed timesheet as backup; others attach the timesheet as a second page.
How do I show overtime on a timesheet invoice?
Put overtime hours on their own line with the higher rate and the multiplier, for example 1.5x, so the client sees base and overtime hours separately.
What if the client disputes the hours?
That is the main reason to get each timesheet approved before invoicing. With the approver's name or reference on the invoice, disputed hours can be credited without holding up the rest.
